Memoirs of OPB. Part I
Looking back retrospectively, I like to think that I was-and I am still a very friendly guy. I had a lot of acquaintances and numerous friends; howbeit, very few close mates.
In actuality, I tend to draw strength from being alone and getting lost in my thoughts.
Among this group of close friends, I had two friends named Rodney and Chris.
There are two kinds of people in the world; the normal and the abnormal. Chris definitely falls into the latter group.
On that quite eventful day, both of them were headed to a restaurant to grab lunch, chatting happily and gesticulating as they walked. In the midst of all that, Chris went overboard, and was not actually looking at who/what was ahead, and as a result, he ended up bumping into someone-a massively built man.
“Watch where you are going, mister,” hollered the well-built man.
It’s important to note that my friend was a skinny, lanky guy, and in all sincerity, I do not believe he would have survived a punch from the other guy. I think a punch would have even done so much damage to his soul that he wouldn’t have been granted safe passage to the other side.
“What did you say?” Chris said, trying to talk tough for whatever reason that was best known to him.
The gentleman could scarcely believe what he was hearing “Excuse me? Shouldn’t you be apologizing rather than you being on the offensive?” He queried.
Things were about to get ugly, and Chris wasn’t helping either, seeing he was still running his mouth.
Meanwhile, Rodney had been quiet all through the exchange, but seeing the gentleman’s biceps bulging, he could sense that something would most likely happen if he didn’t intervene, and perhaps, he would not be spared either.
He had to do something to salvage the situation-and quickly!
So he stands directly behind Chris, using his hand to gesticulate wildly, and tells the muscular man that Chris is loco, he is an undergraduate of a mental institutio, therefore he has the tendency to do things like this.
The guy looks at him, pointing at Chris while gesticulating simultaneously, says “really?”
He nods in affirmation.
Of course, Chris has no clue about what is going on behind the scenes.
The muscular guy takes a couple of steps, trying to avoid Chris, and then signals for Rodney to come closer.
“Thank you” he said, “If it wasn’t for you, I would probably have gotten into a scuffle with a deranged man”
Not a problem” he said. “It’s what guys do for each other.”
Chris is not about to let him off so easily.
“Oh, trying to escape are you?” he says. “I haven’t even gotten started.”
The muscular guy puts on his shades, aims a pitiful look in Chris’s direction, and scampers from the scene-literally.
“Did you see that? That is real power talking! He realized what was coming to him, and he had to run” Chris continued.
Looking at Rodney, he says “you guys need to start showing me more respect around here.”
Rodney just shook his head, smiling knowingly.
Thinking about it now, I think he was really unstable, howbeit seasonal.
As far as I know, he’s still not aware of what really happened that day.
He bragged about his “exploits” for quite a while.
Anytime we talk or I see him on Facebook, I can’t help but chuckle;that’s the only thing I can think of.
He’s calm headed now though. He must have gotten a really good beating somewhere along the line that had his brain restored to its default settings!
I live for the moment. Love to write about random topics that catches my fancy and makes people happy. Keyword: fascinating. Abraços
